Lemonade Stand

One day, Kenny and Ruby were wrestling in the living
room. Their mom always told
them not to do that, but sometimes
they forgot. While they were wrestling, Ruby's
foot accidentally
kicked the table.

Oh no! Mommy's vase fell off the table and
broke! Mommy was very cross.
She cleaned up the broken glass and
told Kenny and Ruby to go play somewhere
else. Kenny felt
bad. "Maybe we could buy Mommy another vase," he said.
"We spent
our money on bubble gum," Ruby said.
"We could get more money," Kenny
said. "Let's make a lemonade stand."

Ruby thought that was a good idea. She squeezed the
lemon.

Kenny measured the sugar. "Be careful!" Ruby
scolded.
"Mommy is already mad at us!"

Ruby stirred and tasted until the lemonade was
perfect.

Kenny made a sign. He used his very best handwriting.

Here they are, ready to sell some lemonade!
"I'm
bored," Kenny said. "Maybe we could make Mommy a new vase out of
clay."
"You aren't going anywhere," Ruby said. "After all, this
is all your fault."
"My fault? It was your stupid foot that
kicked the vase!"

Ruby and Kenny had to stop arguing because someone
was
coming. "Want to buy lemonade?" asked Kenny.
"Is it
certified organic?" Kiki asked.
"No."
"Then no." Kiki
walked away.

Ruby and Kenny were a little discouraged. They each
drank a
glass of the lemonade and waited for someone else to
come.

"I'm hot and sweaty," said Suzy, "but I don't have any
money."
"You can have a cup for free," Ruby said.
Kenny kicked
her. "How will we make money if you give
away the
lemonade?"
"We aren't making any money anyway," Ruby said.

Kenny and Ruby each drank a cup of
lemonade with Suzy.
After all, she was one of their best
friends.

Jeremy came to the stand. He bought a cup of
lemonade!
Ruby and Kenny were very excited.

Jeremy drank the glass of lemonade. "That was good,"
he said.
"I'll buy another." He handed Ruby another
dime.
"Hmmm," said Ruby. "The lemonade is all gone and we
only
sold two glasses. Must be a small pitcher."
She and Kenny
cleaned up and went inside.

"Here Mommy," Kenny said. "Ruby and I earned money
to buy you a new vase."
Mommy took the dimes. "Thank you,
sweetheart," she said.
"You're not mad anymore?" he asked.
"I'm not
mad anymore," Mommy said. "I love you guys too much to stay
mad."
She gave them both big hugs. And after that, Ruby and Kenny
tried very hard
not to wrestle in the living
room.
